About

Laurel Mackey Miller, L.Ac, M.Ac

I was 9 nine years old, and on my way to tennis camp for the first time but I had a cold and tennis elbow. My mom, being the good hippie that she was, took me to get acupuncture. I can still remember how scared I was to have needles put in my arm but I went for it and I got better.

As the pains and sorrows of life continued to crop up in the form of menstrual pain, relationship struggles, work stress and stomach hell – all taking me down at one time or another, I turned to acupuncture. And after working in film and television, and feeling depleted and empty, I made my way to the Naropa Institute where I studied Visual Art and Jungian Psychology (1999).

Not knowing how to take my double major into the community I ended up with odd jobs – gardening, taking care of kids, selling tickets at the Boulder Theater box office and being an assistant to a great local artist. It was a time in life when the “who I am, what am I here for…” questions were simmering.  With the simmering arose a longing to learn a skill that would be of help to others and at the same time encourage connection with the natural world and ongoing inner work. Along came a string of synchronicities in my acupuncturist’s office, urging me to take the leap and enroll at the Institute of Taoist Education and Acupuncture (graduated 2004). My education at ITEA and continued study has shed light on an endless sea of knowledge and wisdom that inspires me to learn and grow in service to life. Acupuncturists have always been helpful people in my life and I am here to offer my version of the presence, care and skill that has been given to me, may it be of benefit.

“I feel blessed to have worked closely with Laurel and to have experienced the richness that our collaboration brings. I especially value the beautiful and tender honesty she brings, and her creative and embodied ways of working and teaching. She is always open to trying new approaches. I trust our process of working together.”
